Windows 10 will be end of life by 14th October 2025
Windows 10 was released in 2015 however it is coming to an end on 14th October 2025 to be replaced by the new Windows 11. Most recent new PCs will already have the new Windows 11, and many existing PCs will have already automatically updated to the new Windows 11.
What if I am still using Windows 10 on my PC?
If you're still using Windows 10 beyond October 2025 you will no longer receive important security updates leaving your computer at risk. Eventually, support will be dropped for other software you use including your internet browsers such as Edge and Chrome, they will start causing problems i.e. websites not displaying correctly or not working at all.

In the Windows search box, type Winver and press enter.
Will I need a new computer to upgrade to Windows 11?
You may need a new PC to upgrade to Windows 11 if your current system doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, especially regarding the new requirement for a new security chip called TPM (Trusted Platform Module), and other hardware requirements. It may be possible to bypass some of these requirements if your PC isn’t too old, however, this isn’t recommended. If your computer doesn’t meet the requirements, then your PC should be replaced.
Will it cost me to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11?
If you have compatible hardware and you run the upgrade yourself then there is no cost for the upgrade.
What differences will I see when I upgrade to Windows 11?
The main differences you will initially see is the redesigned start menu, taskbar, and right-click menu. You can go with the new look, however, it is easily customisable if you prefer a familiar look.
How do I know if my new PC will run the new Windows 11? How do I upgrade to the new Windows 11?
The easiest way is to check and update is to run Windows update – simply type Check for updates in the start menu and press enter or click here and follow the prompts and instructions.
Will I lose any of my work? Will all of my programs and apps work with Windows 11? Are there any other preparations I need to make?
You shouldn’t lose any work, and all of your current programs and applications that did work in Windows 10 should work with Windows 11. Nothing is guaranteed though. Check with your software providers that your programs and apps will work, and as always take a backup of any of your files before carrying out any work on your PC.
